What is the distribution of shark encounters by county in California?

California surfers routinely travel up and down the coast for waves. What are the counties they should be most concerned about encountering sharks in?

Before I worked with this dataset I would tend to feel a sense of relief traveling to Southern California to go surfing. While in the water the fear of encountering a shark would fade from front of mind to non-existent. (I understand this feeling is entirely subjective, and everyone experiences these feelings differently.)

After producing this chart my world has been flipped upside down. The narrative of Northern California being so dangerous is staring to thaw….
